CFUW Victoria General Meeting
Guest Speaker – Backpack Buddies
BackPack Buddies was started in North Vancouver in 2012 by a mother-daughter duo, Joanne Griffiths and Emily-anne King, who were confronted with the reality of childhood hunger in their own community. In particular, they learned about the “weekend hunger gap” — when kids who normally rely on school-day meal programs suffer in silence over the weekends when meal support is scarce.
Today, their team supports over 6,000 hungry children every week by collaborating with educators, administrators, social workers and other non-profits. They have expanded operations to communities in the Lower Mainland and on the Island.
